The Best LED Light for Photography We’ve Tested

By Chris Gampat

May 13, 2025

I never thought that I'd type that title. As it is, I'm not a fan of LED lights. I think that they do too much of guiding my creativity rather than letting me be with my own thoughts and make something that truly speaks to my soul. But the Harlowe Avant Max Weather Resistant has to be truly the best LED light that I've ever tested. In fact, I haven't wanted to use a monolight at all since 2011 when Photogenic used to put products out. But this one is pretty special. First off, it's weather resistant -- and that not only means that I can shoot in the rain, but it will last. Lots of LED lights I've found to pale in comparison to Profoto lights. But I've used the Avant Max Weather Resistant on shoots and truly loved what it can do.

Can’t Afford a New Camera? Make Your Older One Last

By Chris Gampat

May 13, 2025

This is the perfect thing for photographers who don't want a new camera and can't afford one. Here's a little-known fact: the warranty of your camera or lens doesn't necessarily cover what happens to it in case of dust, inclement weather, etc. That's why we created the Photography Care Program, in collaboration with Full Frame Insurance. Dust affects your camera and lens performance more than you think, and unless you're constantly cleaning the lens contacts, your autofocus performance could end up pretty wonky. But just in case something happens, you can ensure your camera gear is always covered.

Leica Comments on the Future of Human Photography and a Curious Camera

By Chris Gampat

May 13, 2025

It's a unique opportunity to speak to the owners of Leica. There have been many times when I've been in the same room as Dr. Kauffman, but we've never spoken or met personally. But at the recent 100th Anniversary celebration here in NYC, that changed. Not only was I able to speak with Dr. Kauffman, but also with Karin Kauffman, the head of the Leica galleries across the world. Both had fascinating things to say about the future of photography and cameras.

Sigma to Raise Prices of Its Lenses From June

By Nilofer Khan

May 12, 2025

Since the announcement of tariffs, things have been shaky across various industries. Rising prices and an uncertain future are some of the factors that are affecting business, with the brunt being the most on smaller businesses. The photo industry, in that regard, has its own crisis. With Canon, Leica, and Fujifilm hinting at a price increase, it proves that no one is safe. Joining this fray is Sigma, which recently announced that it will be increasing the price of its lenses from the coming month. Here is what you should know.

How to Identify If You Are A Compulsive Photographer

By Nilofer Khan

May 12, 2025

Photography is a truly liberating, meditative, and even cathartic practice for many. It is a gateway to connect with the world on a deeper level, not by merely observing its beauty but also by understanding its functions. It takes one to be in a certain frame of mind to 'see' these changes, and when you release the shutter, you feel at one with your surroundings in those few seconds. That feeling is intense; once you understand that, there is no going back. However, what happens when photography is no longer a cathartic practice but rather the opposite? If you feel the same, then let us tell you: you are a compulsive photographer. What are the signs? See below for yourself!

The New Capture One Beta Will Fundamentally Change Retouching

By Chris Gampat

May 12, 2025

Last week, Capture One announced a few new important changes to their program. The company, which has always been a bit slower and more careful about making changes that photographers hope won't replace their services, made a new update involving AI, retouching, and doing it in one of the most ethical ways that I've ever seen. While it's still in Beta, I'm thoroughly surprised at just how good it makes retouching and at how nearly effortless it is. On top of that, Capture One does face detection even better than many of the camera manufacturers out there.

Will Fujifilm Ever Release a Full Frame Camera?

By Nilofer Khan

May 11, 2025

Fujifilm has been making several strides when it comes to innovation. They revived the XM5 last year for content creators and also announced a new compact, medium format camera, the GFX100 RF. The buzz didn't end there. The company will reportedly unveil its half-frame camera, which has excited photographers who want a small sensor camera. While the company has famously worked with both APS-C and medium format, it now appears that many photographers don't want either, but rather, a new full-frame camera.
