The Company That’s Not Trying to Screw Photographers Over

By Chris Gampat

April 16, 2025

It's a Friday morning -- the only time on VSCO CEO Eric Wittman's schedule where we can get together for breakfast and to chat candidly. His is a story I know I need to tell because lots of modern photographers are often bedazzled by the grind that is typical social media. After coordinating with his staff, I chose to make it as convenient for him as possible and meet near his hotel. Of course, it means that I'll be far removed from the good, sustainable, and affordable food outlets where I live. I fight the urge to not want to go into hyper-capitalist, uber-gentrified Manhattan because I think that highly of the company. VSCO, to me, is genuinely one of the last companies that's not trying to screw photographers over for a buck. Instead, they're helping photographers make money and charging a sustainable price to help them do that.

Does the Rogue Flashbender Work on a Profoto B10?

By Chris Gampat

April 16, 2025

I've previously written about how I don't always like using expensive softboxes on the Profoto B10. So I've often looked for alternatives. A few days ago, I wrote about hacking a Roundflash beauty dish onto one. But then I thought about something else: the Rogue Flashbender. Specifically, we're talking about the extra large ones. In 2020, we reviewed the Version 3 of these products. But if you're trying to do something very quick, then they also work very well.

Fujifilm Half Frame Camera and Leica M Has One Similarity

By Nilofer Khan

April 16, 2025

The year 2025 is turning out to be quite exciting for Fujifilm. The company recently unveiled the first-ever medium-format camera in a compact body, the GFX100 RF, which has become an instant hit among many. There is also the newly launched Instax Mini 41, the older brother of the Mini 40, which is also gaining traction. While this is now in the past, Fujifilm's future still looks quite stellar. Remember how we mentioned that a new half-frame camera from the company may launch soon? Well, after its FCC registration, we are now seeing more updates on its specs, as well as a few images that have been leaked!

The Secret Feature on Compact Cameras

By Chris Gampat

April 15, 2025

For a long time, compact cameras have had a feature that we wish ILC cameras had. So, with the dive back into compact cameras these days, we figured that we'd show you folks something really incredible that they do but that larger, interchangeable-lens cameras don't do. It's not at all groundbreaking, but it surely is a convenient feature that we wish came to bigger cameras.

The Polaroid Flip Does What Camera Manufacturers Refused to Do

By Chris Gampat

April 15, 2025

"Their film is still pretty erratic," I say to the head of product management of Polaroid -- not knowing who they were yet staying resound in my unshakable confidence on the statement. Yet despite this and complaints from friends at my yoga studio who said that the film took a while to fully develop, I've never seen people literally do a dance of excitement while shaking a Polaroid picture in their hands. The last time I tested the Polaroid i2, there were guaranteed smiles on peoples' faces. And the Polaroid Flip, with its design reminiscent of something you'd see out of the Jetsons, did the same thing. This camera reaches into the feels as deeply as retro compact cameras do -- but it leaves you with the tactile material that we're all so deeply missing.

Americans Can Detect AI Images Easily, Finds a New Study

By Nilofer Khan

April 15, 2025

In the highly AI-driven world, we have been finding it increasingly challenging to figure out whether a photograph is real or is created with generative AI. While a large number of people were unable to differentiate between the two, a new study claims that 70% of the Americans participating in the experiment were actually able to tell the difference. How accurate is this? Let's find out.

Could the Fujifilm X-Half Have a Four Thirds Sensor?

By Chris Gampat

April 15, 2025

The reports around the web are saying that the new Fujifilm X-Half is going to be a brand new camera made for the TikTok and creator crowd. While we hope that it's not designed to be just a point and shoot meant to shoot video footage, but there's a big chance that Fujifilm might really do that indeed. But if Fujifilm were to make a half-frame style camera mean for and designed for photographers, here's what we'd want from it.
