What Do Tariffs on Japan Mean for the Camera Industry?
By Nilofer Khan
July 8, 2025
Tariffs have already caused issues for photographers. Companies such as Leica, Nikon, Sigma, and Canon have each announced significant price hikes, which have hurt photographers. Due to the escalation, US President Donald Trump has decided to hold off tariffs until July 9, with reports now indicating that prices will become higher in the next month. How so? Well, the reciprocal tariff may simply kick off soon. Here's a look at what's happening on the ground.

Kodak Color Plus 200 Review: The Best Film for Street Photography
By Chris Gampat
July 8, 2025
I began shooting Kodak Color Plus 200 for this review in 2023 -- and without a doubt in my mind, this has to be the best color film for street photography. It simply has so much going for it. There's the beautiful colors, the muted but realistic tones, the grain, the depth, the way that it delivers images that look like familiar Portra but aren't, and the more affordable price tag. Loaded into a Leica, Kodak Color Plus 200 has the look that I've been craving for years but haven't gotten with my street photography since the older versions of Kodak Ektachrome were around. So if you've been wanting to try soemthing new instead of Cinestill 400D, check this out.

Aurelio Ramos’s Solara and Superlush for LUMIX: LUTs You Need to Download Now
By Alberto Lima
July 8, 2025
The Panasonic LUMIX S9 is one of my favorite cameras at the moment—not necessarily for work but for all the other parts of my photography life. One of the biggest reasons is the ability to install LUTs directly onto the camera, allowing me to capture a plethora of looks straight out of the camera, no …

Why Modern Autofocus Sucks and It Hasn’t Improved Since 2017
By Chris Gampat
July 8, 2025
The last DSLR that I reviewed was the Nikon D850. In that review, I steadfastly say that, "I’m over DSLRs at this point despite the fact that I acknowledge them as fantastic image making devices." I also state somewhere else in the review that unless a DSLR is packing a medium format sensor, that I don't care about it. Now here's my latest hot take: modern autofocus can't actually improved at all since probably 2017. I say this as a man who tests loads of cameras and even supervises the testing of them with other very experienced staffers. Autofocus only seems better because lots of the reviewers currently being listened to have really only started shooting with seriousness in the past few years. But in reality, autofocus hasn't improved and it's as stagnant as it ever was. Let me explain.

The Best Portrait Photography Presets for Budget Photographers
By Chris Gampat
July 7, 2025
Portrait photographers, we've got something special for you. Our presets are designed to make editing a minimal task so you can get back to shooting! We're in love with Retro Digital. Luckily, that's when we founded the website closer to two decades ago. So we dove into our image archives, looked at how the Adobe Gurus were telling us how to edit, and adapted those methods to create our Retro Digital Lightroom Presets and Capture One Styles. These are in addition to the popular Photojournalism presets that we released a while back.

OM System Says a Pen F Successor is Being Considered
By Chris Gampat
July 7, 2025
I'd argue that it's one of the most hyped digital mirrorless cameras around right now: the Olympus Pen-F. After the company launched it, they weren't very happy with the sales. But since OM SYSTEM broke off to be their own company, the closest we've seen so far is the OM-3. When I reviewed that camera, I found it to feel more like the original EM5. And when it launched, OM System got many requests for a Pen F successor. Believe it or not, they're looking into it.

This 25mm f1.8 Pancake Lens is Only $89
By Nilofer Khan

Chinese lens manufacturers have been innovating in a very saturated photo market. While you have the best lenses from the big players, smaller creators are not shying away from offering something that others aren't at the moment. SG-image is one such company that has been aiming to offer cost-effective lenses that also excel in their performance. After launching the "world’s first variable aperture" lens, the company is now set to introduce a wide-angle prime for Sony and Fujifilm users. Here's what it has to offer.

The Cool Camera Everyone Forgot About
By Chris Gampat
July 7, 2025
I almost didn't write this review. But a little over a year ago, I bought a special edition of the Lomography Lomomatic 110 camera. There was no press or influencer discount -- I bought it outright. It genuinely was one of the most beautiful cameras I've used in the past few years and it filled me with a bit of excitement that quickly subsided. It subsided so much in fact that I ended up giving the camera away. Just recently, I got the images back from developing. The Lomomatic 110 is capable of delivering an organic looking image unlike anything else around right now. When I say it made photos that made NY look like it was from over 30 years ago, I'm not kidding about that. And while it's one of the more unique experiences in photography, I just don't think that it's worth the purchase if you're experienced -- and there's very good reasons for that.

A Minor Nikon Zf Firmware Update Has Arrived
By Feroz Khan
July 7, 2025
Some firmware updates really transform your camera into a whole new beast, almost like a new camera itself. The Nikon Zf firmware version 2.02 isn't one of them. It's more cosmetic in nature than anything else, and it doesn't improve image quality. We haven't seen anything break as a result of this upgrade, so you can go ahead and do this on a lazy Sunday. Some firmware updates really transform your camera into a whole new beast, almost like a new camera itself.
