How to Choose the Right Point and Shoot Camera
By Chris Gampat
August 21, 2025
Back in 2009, I wrote an article about how to choose a point and shoot camera -- specifically, the right one for you. When taking a look back into our archive, I realized that we're experiencing similar things. Arguably, we're in some sort of recession right now. And there are so many good cameras out there right now that you don't need to buy something brand new. In truth, an older full-frame camera that's more feature rich than smaller sensor bodies will be cheaper than a newer camera. People want point and shoot cameras because they're sick of the AI processing that their phones are doing and they want to look at those types of screens a lot less.

Best Old-School Fujifilm Cameras: 5 Gems and 1 Missed the Mark
By Nilofer Khan
August 21, 2025
Fujifilm cameras have quite a reputation among small sensor shooters. These devices offer exceptional image quality, excellent build quality, and truly exciting retro designs. Overall, one can never go wrong with a Fujifilm camera. For those who want a device from yesteryears that can perform brilliantly, here is a look at a few cameras introduced before 2015. They may be old, but they are excellent in many ways even today.

Is the New Ricoh GR IV Worth The Upgrade?
By Nilofer Khan
August 20, 2025
Ricoh has created some of the most memorable street photography cameras of all time, the GR series. Today, after much waiting, the company has launched the GR IV, which offers a plethora of features over the GR III and the GR IIIx. The new camera is said to feature an overhaul in all the major areas, including components, lens, image sensor, and imaging engine. But does it still carry the flash that users wanted? Let's have a closer look.

Is the Ricoh GR IV Perfect for Shooting from the Hip?
By Chris Gampat
August 20, 2025
I'm writing this article after spending around two hours with the new Ricoh GR IV and shooting around Queens with it set to the new Cinema Yellow mode. It's only come in today after what Ricoh tells me are holdups with shipping. Crazy enough, it's raining in NYC and we're probably going to experience a hurricane very soon. Of course, this wouldn't be such a problem if the camera were made weather-resistant, but the new Ricoh GR IV isn't weather-resistant. If you're a Ricoh fan, I'm not sure yet if it's worth the upgrade -- and I'm working on my full review to figure that out. But so far, I'm not sure why someone would buy this camera when the X100V can be had for cheaper and does most of what the GR IV can do and more.

The Bird Photography Tip Everyone Forgets
By Chris Gampat
August 20, 2025
When you're doing bird photography, lots of photographers tend to more or less become brainless. Lots shoot in aperture priority and raise the ISO up to a suitable level to keep the shutter speeds high. Others will shoot in program mode or in bird mode. Sure, I've seen some folks shoot in shutter priority too. But that's a pretty rare occurrence. And with just how fast of an aperture so many lenses have these days, people forget the one thing that can really help them out.

5 Nikon Best Cameras Released Pre-2015, And the One to Skip
By Nilofer Khan
August 20, 2025
Nikon has launched some exceptional cameras over the years. While the company is enjoying success in the mirrorless era, we thought we would take a peek at some exciting offerings from the past years, particularly the ones launched before 2015. That's because many young photographers are looking to buy devices that offer distinct images, not too muted or sharp. These cameras may be old, but they continue to be powerful performers even today. And, you don't have to burn a hole in your pocket to get them.

Why You Want a High Megapixel Camera for Birding
By Chris Gampat
August 20, 2025
Typically, what I've often seen are photographers who go for lower megapixel camera bodies when shooting bird photography. The reasons for this are very logical. Lower megapixel cameras are better at handling high ISO noise and the autofocus is typically better. But actually, I'd argue that higher megapixel cameras are better for bird photography -- and there's a good reason for that too. Still, somewhere in the middle is the ideal option.

How CHDK Helped Bring My Old Canon Back To Life
By Feroz Khan
August 20, 2025
There's a certain thrill in making an electronic gadget do something that the manufacturer wouldn't otherwise give you access to. I first experienced this thrill over a decade ago when jailbreaking my iPhone 5s. I won't get into the details of why that was done, but it certainly helped make the experience a lot less restricted than those earlier iOS versions were. So when I received an opportunity to try something similar out for an old Canon compact that was lying in the corner of my home, I decided to give it a whirl. Spoiler alert - it added so many more features to my IXUS 95, from 2009, which Canon never really gave original purchasers of their compacts
