Nikon Has a Problem

By Chris Gampat

December 2, 2025

Yes, I know that's a vague title. But it's one that we've discussed many times here on the Phoblographer. We're talking about Nikon cameras and how they work with flashes and strobes. In several of our tests, we've found there to be lots of problems involving the use of flash -- which has forever been the standard light source for professional photographers and those of us who lean into the magic of creativity. To further clarify this statement, Nikon has always had a problem with flash since even the days of the DSLR. But unlike Canon, Sony, Olympus, Panasonic, etc., they never got it under control.

This Predatory Practice Can Rob Photographers of Lots of Money

By Chris Gampat

December 2, 2025

In my office and in my living room are the photo books of several of my friends and heroes. And I'm well aware of the sacrifices that they've made to create these photo books. Many pay several thousands of dollars to make their books. And let me put it this way: I think that photo books are very important and that we should surely be making them. More importantly, I think that they're one of the absolute best ways to have records of your photography in one place that isn't loaded with comments, hearts, and algorithm, and where you've got full creative control. I will always be a big lover and proponent of photo books. But I think that if you're going to make one, you should avoid a predatory practice.

A wide-aperture lens can be crucial for photographers. Not only will it give you better bokeh, but work wonders if you happen to make images in low light. Canon is one company that offers multiple such lenses in the range, but it appears that they wish to push boundaries as much as they can. Per new reports, the company is adding a new f2.8 lens. which will complete the holy trinity of budget-friendly wide aperture lenses.

By Alberto Lima

December 1, 2025

PolarPro has been on a roll lately, releasing various lens filters aimed squarely at creative photographers. The new Shift Diopter lens filter is a collaboration with content creator and commercial photographer, Garrett “Shortstache” King. The Most Unique Idea I’ve Seen All Year for Real Photographers

By Chris Gampat

December 1, 2025

It's really hard to run across new ideas when you're on this side of the journalism desk. But when something does come up, I'm ever so intrigued and excited. You've obviously heard about printing your images. For some of us, that's probably not making it go far enough. So what about the idea of making your image so large and with the ability to stick onto something like your wall? Yes, you can more or less make your photo prints into large stickers or something kind of like wallpaper to turn your photos into an actual mural. I've never really seen this done before, but Lumaprints can do it for you.

Nikon cameras have been pretty great in myriad ways. The company has introduced some exciting models over the years, which have gone on to earn the title of cult classic.
