Sony Publishes Patent For Five Prime Telephoto Lenses
By Nilofer Khan
April 23, 2025
Sony has some truly beautiful cameras and optics in their massive portfolio. The company introduced stellar series like the a9 and a7, but they also have commendable lenses to complement these cameras. While they already announced a 400mm f2.8 GM lens in 2022 and a 600mm f4 GM in 2019, a new patent suggests that we may see an update or a prime telephoto variant very soon. And no, it is not just the 400mm; the company also has plans for a 500mm and an 800mm lens.

We all have heard about stock photography and how it is impossible to make money through it. The statement stands true today, as there are billions of images floating on the internet, and the democratization of the medium has made it challenging to earn money. In fact, the low wages offered to stock photographers today and the reliance on AI-generated pictures are resulting in a lot of challenges. However, there is still some way for you to make some money from this segment. How so? Here are some tips for you.

The Key to Making Your Camera Gear Last Longer
By Chris Gampat
April 23, 2025
Want to make your camera gear last even longer? Here's a little-known fact: the warranty of your camera or lens doesn't necessarily cover what happens to it in case of dust, inclement weather, etc. That's why we created the Photography Care Program, in collaboration with Full Frame Insurance. Dust affects your camera and lens performance more than you think, and unless you're constantly cleaning the lens contacts, your autofocus performance could end up pretty wonky. But just in case something happens, you can ensure your camera gear is always covered.

15 Essential Photo Books Every Serious Photographer Must Own
By Nilofer Khan
April 23, 2025
With photography facing a threat from the surge of artificial intelligence and snapshot-like images from Instagram, it has become ever so essential for us to return to our roots. Before, plenty of people or algorithms told us what trendy images would get you more followers, and photographers would create images that would leave indelible marks on consciousness. While that kind of photography persists, it has become rarer in the highly digital world. To ensure you don't lose your path along the way, we have collated a list of photo books to help you push your creative boundaries and create work you will be proud of. After all, the challenge is to surpass yourself!

Tamron Is Developing a New All-Purpose Lens For Canon and Nikon Users
By Nilofer Khan
April 22, 2025
Tamron has made some exceptional lenses over the years. From prime lenses to a telephoto, Tamron offers a great range for photographers, where performance meets a good price point. The company recently started making new lenses for the Canon RF mount, and it appears this is just the beginning. As per new reports, Tamron is currently making another lens for Canon mirrorless users, which will be an all-purpose lens.

Samyang x Schneider Kreuznach Launches an Important Lens for Sony E-Mount Users
By Nilofer Khan

Samyang has created some good lenses that perform well but are also affordable to many photographers. However, there are some exceptions, such as the XP 10mm f3.5, which costs about $1000 but gives you some truly incredible images. While Samyang is moving forward in the lens market, they recently teased their collaboration with Schneider-Kreuznach, the latter being a German brand that is known for its cinematic lenses. Today, they have finally announced the highly anticipated zoom lens, the Schneider-Kreuznach x LK Samyang AF 14-24mm f2.8 FE.

Sony 50-150mm f2 vs Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8: A Lens Comparison
By Chris Gampat
April 22, 2025
I've been a long time owner of the Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8 lens. And before I even dive into this comparison I'll be flat our honest with you. The Sony 50-150mm f2 is a very good lens -- but it is absolutely nowhere as useful. I, like so many other working photographers, would prefer to have the zoom range instead of the constant aperture. In situations where the aperture changes, you can use a higher ISO setting or TTL flash. So during my review period with the Sony 50-150mm f2, I compared it to the Tamron. Time and time again, I found myself wanting my Tamron lens instead of the Sony.

Sony 50-150mm f2 G Master Review: Not Done by an Influencer
By Chris Gampat
April 22, 2025
“I don’t know who’s gonna buy this,” I’ve said often about the new Sony 50-150mm f2 G Master lens. I applaud Sony for making it – in fact, my eyes lit up during the presentation to the press. I even stated that I thought that people would probably get rid of the 135mm f1.8 G Master lenses for it. But after working with this lens for studio portraits and alongside the Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8 lens, I can firmly state that the Tamron is the more reasonable lens in every single way. Though at the same time, we should give Sony the credit for making Canon and Nikon have to do something to catch up a bit more.

Sony 300mm f2.8 GM Update: What More Could Pros Ask For?
By Feroz Khan
April 22, 2025
If there’s one thing the Sony 300mm f2.8 G Master lens proves, it’s that their G Master lineup continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible in professional photography. I paired with the Sony A1 II (running firmware 2.0), during the Dubai Racing Carnival 2024-25 season at the iconic Meydan Racecourse. It didn't just perform well; it nailed the action almost perfectly, faltering only on a few occasions. Sony pro sports photographers really don't have to look much further than the Sony 300mm f2.8 to cover most of their sports assignments. I only wish Sony had also added one extra feature which I'll elaborate on later.
