Viltrox Vintage V2 Flash Review: The $36 Street Photography Magic Trick

Viltrox Vintage V2 Flash Review: The $36 Street Photography Magic Trick

by Chris Gampat

March 18, 2026

I realize that the title of this article is going to be very divisive. But I don't care because it's the truth. You see, lots of photographers don't want to use flash because they don't know how to use it and only capture what they see. But real photographers I've often believed see moments in their heads and use the tools available to them to make them come to life on celluloid and in pixels. And here's the thing: flash has become so easy that anyone can really do it if you just put in a few minutes to learn it. But the Viltrox Vintage V2 flash kind of makes it a skill again -- and I really love that.

When I was done reviewing the Leica 35mm f1.2 APO for Leica M mount, I was yearning for more. I hadn't looked so adoringly at photos like that in a very long time. So like any other photographer with GAS that needs to be vented, I went around the web searching. The quest brought me the path of the TTArtisan 35mm f2 APO. So I called one in for review. When I tell you that this is the lens that led me to question everything, I'm really, really not kidding you.

Last week, I had a moment to sit down with Sigma's Kazuto Yamaki to discuss a few things about the future of photography. In the short 10 minutes that I allowed myself, we discussed AI in photography, the new Foveon Sensor, and content credentials. And from it, he got me very excited about the future of Sigma in some ways.

In 2025, I started to do things that otherwise would seem crazy for a publisher of a niche photography online magazine to do. For starters, this year, the Phoblographer may actually make a printed magazine again. But in addition to that, we didn't sell any ads to the big camera manufacturers. It really showed me that if everyone even gave $1 to read FOR THE YEAR, we'd make enough money to be able to grow and sustain the site for a very, very long time. But that's really tough to ask. Eventually, I'd like to site to move away from needing and relying on banner-ads. Instead, I want the site to go fully super-affordable subscription eventually.

Kodak Portra 400 is a highly regarded film known for its muted tones. It is also one of the films that is well-regarded by photographers. While analog photographers can get the film from online stores, digital photographers have no other option but to rely on Adobe or Capture One to recreate the look. However, PolarPro, a popular photography accessory brand, has found a solution to this, and this one will be loved by those who want in-camera results: The Portra Filter.

The Trick to Getting the Fastest Autofocus With Any Camera

The Trick to Getting the Fastest Autofocus With Any Camera

by Chris Gampat

I'm going to bet you that most of you don't know the trick that I'm about to break your brain with. All the manufacturers like to spew at you is marketing jargon. And what's more, most YouTubers and influencers don't really know how to use their cameras all that well. You probably didn't know that getting the fastest autofocus with any camera isn't really about having the fastest focusing lenses or anything like that. Instead, it's about foresight.

Pancake lenses are important for many genres of photographers. They are small, easy to carry, and inconspicuous for genres such as street photography. While pancake lenses remain important, there are unfortunately not many options available today. Here is a look at the three that continue to win over.
