How to Keep Taking Photos When Depression is All Around You
by Chris Gampat
August 12, 2026
In November of 2025, I wrote a note to myself inspired by poet Kyle Tran Myhre's book, "Not a lot of reasons to sing, but enough." Track 9 of the audiobook is a poem that I truly wish I had in my life at the end of 2023: a moment that I consider to be one of the most depressing of my 30s. During this time, I had little money and I dove deep into myself to heal with brief stints amongst community. I eventually overcame what was bothering me, but through that time period, I became creative to a point where I seriously stopped holding back.

They do this by increasing the contrast -- which in turn also increases how the sharpness and clarity are perceived. As a high-functioning blind man though, I sometimes indeed prefer the look of the world with smears on my glasses and a nice warmth to whatever is in front of me. So here's some information on how to make lens flares work for you.

Let's be honest, you don't need a new camera: but yours is probably designed to fail after some time. A while ago, the Phoblographer created the Photography Care Program, in collaboration with Full Frame Insurance. It was made directly in response to the camera and lens manufactures not always honoring their warranties based on their marketing of products being weather resistant. Granted, we're not talking about waterproof products. But if a brand is saying that something works, shouldn't they be held accountable?

The Photography Technique that Landscape and Portrait Photographers Love
by Chris Gampat

Several years ago, I had my original Sony a7 converted to full-spectrum infrared by the folks over at Kolari Vision. What it allowed me to do is something that genuinely challenges and stimulates my mind in a way that otherwise never happens. Just by using certain filters, I can dramatically change the look that the camera produces. But one of my favorites involves making the images look like Kodak Aerochrome. This article serves as encouragement to you as a photographer to keep your old camera gear alive and to find ways to make it work for you in different situations.
