Americans Can Detect AI Images Easily, Finds a New Study
By Nilofer Khan
April 15, 2025
In the highly AI-driven world, we have been finding it increasingly challenging to figure out whether a photograph is real or is created with generative AI. While a large number of people were unable to differentiate between the two, a new study claims that 70% of the Americans participating in the experiment were actually able to tell the difference. How accurate is this? Let's find out.

Could the Fujifilm X-Half Have a Four Thirds Sensor?
By Chris Gampat
April 15, 2025
The reports around the web are saying that the new Fujifilm X-Half is going to be a brand new camera made for the TikTok and creator crowd. While we hope that it's not designed to be just a point and shoot meant to shoot video footage, but there's a big chance that Fujifilm might really do that indeed. But if Fujifilm were to make a half-frame style camera mean for and designed for photographers, here's what we'd want from it.

Buying a new camera today can be very daunting. Mirrorless cameras are getting more expensive every year, and the new set of tariffs by Donald Trump makes the dream of buying new cameras just another dream. While the world deals with the financial meltdown that affects us every step of the way, we decided to come up with a list that can help photographers, especially younger ones, to be able to continue their passion. The list includes various options, so do have a look and see what fits your budget and your needs.

The Best Lightroom Presets to Emulate the 2000s
By Chris Gampat
April 14, 2025
Want to get the looks you saw in the early 2000s? It's here! A lot of us yearn for the days when digital photography was so much simpler. I don't miss pixel peeping -- in fact, we never encouraged it here at the Phoblographer. We know that we're not alone here, and we're in love with Retro Digital. Luckily, that's when we founded the website closer to two decades ago. So we dove into our image archives, looked at how the Adobe Gurus were telling us how to edit, and adapted those methods to create our Retro Digital Lightroom Presets and Capture One Styles. These are in addition to the popular Photojournalism presets that we released a while back.

Should I Buy a Sony a7 III in 2025?
By Alberto Lima
April 14, 2025
Let’s take a trip back to the Spring of 2018. Drake dominated the Billboard Hot 100, skinny jeans were dying out, and Sony had launched the much-anticipated successor to the a7—the Sony a7 III. In 2018, the a7 III was easily the best bang for your buck in the full-frame mirrorless camera market, but is it still a camera worth buying in 2025? You might be surprised by this take.

Panasonic Becomes the Fifth Camera Manufacturer to Join Content Authenticity Initiative
By Nilofer Khan
April 14, 2025
The new wave of artificial intelligence makes it extremely challenging to distinguish between facts and fiction. Midjourney and ChatGPT are working to refine their AI model to the point that the 'unreal' looks very authentic. Amidst this, the fear of photographers losing their livelihood becomes more real, and so does their creative vision being plagiarised, thus hurting their brand image. To help photographers have the upper hand, Panasonic joined the Content Authenticity Initiative on April 8, 2025. Here is what they had to say.

Why Mark Seliger’s Photos Are So Magical
By Chris Gampat
April 14, 2025
Over the 14 years I’ve run the Phoblographer, we’ve interviewed several photographers. Most American photographers lack something that seems commonplace amongst Eastern European photographers. Those photographers blend mystery, magic, and Renaissance-style beauty into their images. Indeed, there are American photographers who do this, too — and they especially have different retouching standards. One of my favorites is Mark Seliger -- who is often seen alongside Annie Leibovitz as one of the greats in this department. But most American photographers don’t seem to bring a sense of magic to their images. There’s a reason for that.

The older Canon Powershot cameras are now being roared to life once again. We have seen that some of them are already quite popular (see here), while there are some that are gradually gaining momentum. For instance, a quick search revealed that two Canon Powershot cameras are now becoming popular once again. Which models are they and should you buy one, too? We will share that in a minute.

The Best Leica Cameras Under $1500 to Purchase Today
By Nilofer Khan
April 14, 2025
Well, the headline says it all. Leica is one of the most expensive camera brands in the world because owning a Leica is like signing up for a lifetime membership. The company has some excellent rules for repairs, which ensures the camera can be easily passed down from generation to generation. However, if you are someone who wants to own a Leica for its image quality, ergonomics, and the 'feel' of the device, but without the hefty price, then you are at the right place. Bear in mind that you won't get top-of-the-line cameras, but those there are still good in 2025.
