This Photography Format Let Americans See the Civil War in 3D
By Nilofer Khan
October 24, 2025
The beauty of a photograph is that it holds our 3D reality within the confines of a 2D frame. It showcases a fraction of one's truth, but also helps to keep our memories intact, in ways we can't imagine. While over the years, there have been the invention of many photography techniques and formats, there is one that truly seems like a predecessor to the modern 3D process, the stereograph. Here is a look at how the format grew and how it played a role during the American Civil War.

Canon EOS R1 Review Update: A Direct Fix to a Problem We Highlighted
By Alberto Lima
October 24, 2025
When we first reviewed the Canon EOS R1, our biggest gripe with the camera was that it felt like a camera that could’ve and maybe should’ve just been an update to the EOS R3. There were very few notable differences between the two camera bodies, and then, while testing the camera during an actual sports event, we noticed a serious issue with the camera – it could not distinguish between people and a volleyball net. A serious flaw for a camera that includes a specific AF setting for Volleyball. As of July 2025, Canon pushed a new firmware update that includes a number of fixes and one that directly addresses the issue with its subject detection errors. Did Canon get it right this time?

Leica M EV1 Review: It Fits in Your Pocket
By Chris Gampat
October 23, 2025
I didn’t realize how much I’d like the Leica M EV1. But before typing this statement, I caught myself holding the camera and sitting with it just because I liked the way it feels in my hand. It’s synonymous with the feeling when a child gets a new toy that they’re swooning over. As I hold the camera, I’m picturing when I’ve seen this kind of excitement before. And I think back about the time I bought a BBQ pitmaster a big kukri knife made in Nepal for the Gurkhas, and when I purchased a vintage leather jacket and backpack for a friend to go with a really beautiful hat. I don’t see this kind of excitement that often anymore as an adult with no partner nor children. But to feel it is a whole other thing. In many ways the Leica M EV1 feels like it answers several requests that I’ve asked for for years. And in other ways, it feels like Leica is afraid of embracing the fact that they can change with age while still maintaining their identity.
