Dear folks,
Today is the start of the longest vacation/staycation of my career so far. Every week day, I work to put together this newsletter personally. And I will be on staycation until January 5th. With that said, the Phoblographer’s newsletter won’t be going out for a while. And this is the last one until 2026.
I’ll be spending my staycation time hanging out with chosen family, having fun with a few key cameras, and going on adventures and quests that I’m giving myself here in NYC.
I’m writing this to also let you all know something.
I sincerely appreciate all of you. Our email newsletter is one of the smallest sources of our traffic. But it’s also a core set of folks who I consider to be our most ardent readers. In a world where lots of folks think that AI is writing what they’re reading, you can count on my legally blind eyes to miss typos and know that everything is being written by humans. Kidding aside, I am still going through eye issues and I’ll be finding ways to adapt while also working to evolve personally.
We all define what’s better for ourselves. And now, more than ever, I think that this is very important to our individuality as human photographers.
I wish every one of you a happy holiday season. Growing up in a Hindu home and going to Catholic school, I balanced the differences between the cultures. At nearly 39 years old, Christmas doesn’t feel as magical as it did when we were children. And it’s taken a long time to learn that we have to make it magical for ourselves when we’re adults.
To that end, I think the same about photography. If we only try to rely on others for visual inspiration, then we’re not going to be able to make it happen on our own. And so I’m wishing you all time away from screens, healthy moments, and indulgences in the things that feel like love to you.
I’ll see you next year.

It now appears that the company is keen on launching a new camera, one that will be "based on" the offering from Panasonic.

The Sony a7V Review: Fix the Autofocusing System Now
By Alberto Lima
December 11, 2025
Sony’s a7V is here, and like other cameras in the a7 line, the a7V is primarily positioned to be the do-it-all camera without going too deep into any kind of specialty. The camera has introduced some of the company’s flagship features, such as Real-Time Subject Detection and Pre-Capture, while striving for a low barrier to entry. However, after testing and living with this camera for the past few weeks, it’s apparent that Sony has some work to do if they plan on replicating the success of previous models in the line.

Our Presets are a Gift That Doesn’t Stop Giving
By Chris Gampat
December 11, 2025
This holiday, give yourself a little affordable gift. Our presets are designed to make editing a minimal task so you can get back to shooting! We're in love with Retro Digital. Luckily, that's when we founded the website closer to two decades ago. So we dove into our image archives, looked at how the Adobe Gurus were telling us how to edit, and adapted those methods to create our Retro Digital Lightroom Presets and Capture One Styles. These are in addition to the popular Photojournalism presets that we released a while back.

In recent years, the Phoblographer team has transitioned from editing images in Adobe Lightroom to Capture One. One of the reasons is that the latter is more efficient and offers a variety of tools that can help reduce the world's load. With Capture One becoming a more prominent option for many photographers, Leica today announces a new partnership with the image editing platform to enhance the user experience. Here is a look at what Leica photographers stand to gain.
