A Special Message: Help Us Fight Jeff Bezos
A special message from the Editor in Chief of the Phoblographer
Dear readers of the Phoblographer,
Please give me a few minutes of your time and I’ll show you why we should all be standing up to Jeff Bezos right now.
Ever since all the ethical hiring issues and lawsuits with B&H Photo, Amazon has been the Phoblographer's preferred retailer of choice when recommending to you folks where to buy camera gear from. Admittedly, I knew that I was trading one evil for another. But this week, Jeff Bezos crossed the line by laying off the entire photography staff of the Washington Post. We've been wanting to get rid of Amazon for a while -- and in order to do that, we need your help.
Let me give you some very transparent numbers here. Take a look at the screenshot below.

That screenshot is from our Amazon affiliate backend. It shows that last year, the Phoblographer can track that we sold over $400,000 in camera sales -- which is impressive considering everything that the American dictator has been doing to screw with the entire world's economy.
But overall, we can track that we've sold nearly $700,000 of product. The key word there is, "track." And that means that we probably sold more.
However, over that $694K, the Phoblographer only took home not even $25,000. I've asked Amazon in the past for an upgrade, but the talks reached multiple hurdles.
In past years, we've sold even more for Amazon and we've always ended up making around the same amount.
I'm sick of it as a small business owner. And all of us should be angry at what the owner of Amazon has done to photographers.
In 2026, I want to remove the Phoblographer of all possible unethical companies. Lots of folks have problems with Amazon, and I've even shopped far less with them. I personally choose to shop at Adorama or on eBay. But none of these brands are perfect -- instead, they're all just variations of a capitalistic problem.
So here's what we're asking of you folks.
Please, please, purchase our $25 membership, which you can do at this link. If the Phoblographer got 20,000 subscribers at $25, then we'd bring in around $500,000. That's more than we've honestly ever made in a year. Even if we got 2,000 subscribers, it would still bring in more money than Bezos and Amazon give us.
Yes, we operate on a super small budget, and we're a very small business. But we'd work to eliminate working with big, greedy companies, and it would help us be more independent.
That, in turn, would help us to keep producing the work that we do without interference from the outside.
$25/year gets you the site banner-ad free. It's really affordable. And if you're looking for good photography and camera news, we're the place to get analysis and all that.
Heck, I may even consider bringing back the art coverage, too.
